                                                                    Masks

Every morning, after her shower, the girl carefully paints on her mask. She uses no makeup, no paint, but she sculpts her face into that perfect, never ending smile. She makes sure that her mask has no cracks, no room for emotion, and she sets off for school. Throughout the day, she has to pretend that their words don't hurt her, that they mean nothing. But all day, they rattle around in her head.

Whore, pathetic, useless, annoying, ugly.

She pretends not to hear them, never letting her mask show any weaknesses. She will not cry. She will not show how much she hurts. If she cries a single tear, she knows, they will all flow, and her carefully made mask would be ruined. So she hides behind others, copying what she can. If she is like everyone else, they cannot target her without making fun of themselves. They stamped out her individuality years ago. Her true self is hidden behind so many layers of masks that she sometimes loses her real self.

So, so many masks; one for every occasion. A Don't-Worry-I'm-Fine mask for at home. Her I-Don't-Care mask, for school. Her real face is like a Meek-and-Miserable mask. Her maskless face, however, no one else has ever seen. No one truly knows her, they just think they do. No one who calls themselves her 'friend' can honestly say that they know her. But that is okay, for she has never had a true friend anyways. They all betray her in the end.

She has a mask for that too. That mask is one of melancholy acceptance; she has been through this cycle too many times to feel that she deserves what she gets, as some sort of twisted penance for a future sin.

Every morning, after her shower, the girl carefully paints on her mask. She uses no makeup, no paint, but she sculpts her face into that perfect, never ending smile. She makes sure that her mask has no cracks, no room for emotion, and she sets off for school.
Every night, she takes off her mask, letting her emotions pour from her face just as freely as the tears that fall, unrestrained, erasing any piece of her façade that may remain.
I wanted to write something other than fanfics, 'cause I write a LOT of them on FF.net [link]
(and thats not all of them.)

So I wrote about me and my metaphorical masks.

I like how part of the beginning was repeated to form the ending. A very sad but literarily clever concept. Something that most people can relate to, unfortunately. I hope it was at least cathartic to write
